Test Process

All cylinders produced (100%) are to be pressure tested to the proper pressure rating unless otherwise stated on the assembly drawing

Test the cylinder to ensure there are no weld or seal leaks and that the cylinder is able to fully stroke under prescribed test pressure. Visually look for a smooth action when extending and retracting the rod. Listen for any abnormal sounds such as squealing or binding.

  • SETUP
    • Check the assembly drawing for test pressure; adjust pressure according to the desired specification.
    • Place and secure the cylinder in the proper fixture
    • Double check the drawing for specifications. Insert proper fittings, as per drawing requirements.
    • Ensure fittings, hoses and couplers are safe to use
    • Insert fittings into ports - Do not over-tighten
    • Connect hoses - Ensure a secure connection

  • TESTING
    • Apply pressure, push button marked 'Test Extend'. For safety, hold hose or use tie down while cylinder is extending
    • Measure and verify the extended length as per drawing
    • When the cylinder is pressured up, check the weld around the end cap and port for leaks, also check around the rod wiper for seal leaks
    • When the test is complete, push button marked 'Test Retract'. For safety, hold the hose tie down while cylinder is retracting.
    • When the cylinder is pressured up, check the weld around the end cap and port for leaks, also check around the rod wiper for seal leaks
    • Measure and verify the retracted length as per drawing.
    • When all tests are successfully completed, push and hold button marked 'Purge Extend'. When the rod is fully extended, repeat the process using 'Purge Retract' button. All cylinders must be in the retracted position when all testing is complete.
    • Verify the retracted rod orientation as per the drawing requirement
    • Disconnect hoses, remove fittings, and roll cylinder over to allow the remaining oil to drain out.
    • Plug the port holes with proper plugs.
